FINGER JOINT REPLACEMENT

WHAT IS JOINT REPLACEMENT ?

In this procedure , the diseased part of a joint is removed and the joint is replaced with an artificial joint . This artificial joint can perform most functions of the replaced joint.

WHAT IS JOINT ARTHRODESIS ?

In joint arthrodesis, diseased parts of joints are removed and the joint is fused to prevent any of its movements.

FINGER JOINT REPLACEMENT

Finger joints which commonly require replacement ( arthroplasty) are MCP joint and PIP joint.

Common reasons for replacement are osteoarthritis, post traumatic arthritis and inflammatory arthritis like rheumatoid arthritis.

Pyrocarbon implants are most commonly used.

FINGER JOINT ARTHRODESIS

Finger joints which commonly require arthrodesis ( fusion of joints) are DIP and PIP joints. Primary osteoarthritis or post traumatic arthritis are the common reasons for this procedure.
