HAND INFECTIONS
Hand is the most commonly used part of our body for our day to day activities. Hence it is also a common area to have infection. Different type of infections include
Acute paronychia
Infection around the nail. It is the most common infection encountered clinically.
Pyogenic flexor tenosynovitis
In this infection affects deeper tissue like tendon and can spread faster .
Bursal infections of hand
Bursae are normal pockets of tissue in hand. Infections in bursae are often grievous and need timely attention.
Midpalmar ,thenar or hypothenar space infections
These infections are common in hand. It can arise in penetrating injuries, spread of infection from adjacent structures. These infections can progress rapidly leading to severe pain and accumulation of a large amount of pus. In immunocompromised patients infection can spread to other parts of the body as well.
Septic arthritis
These are infections of joints. Wrist and finger joints can be involved. These are dangerous infections which can restrict the movements and functions of joints if not treated on time.
Human Bite infections
Human saliva contains nearly one billion bacteria per Milli Liter (ml). Most of these infections demand attention and prompt treatment with wound cleaning and antibiotics.
Diabetic Hand Infections
Cellulitis, abscesses.
Necrotising fasciitis
It is a rapidly advancing infection affecting the skin, subcutaneous tissue and fascia. This needs aggressive management to save the limb and prevent sepsis ( spread of infection to other parts of the body ).
