Mirror hand
What is a mirror hand ?
Mirror hand is a rare congenital anomaly.
How do mirror hands present ?
It is characterised by symmetrical duplication of the limb in midline. Typically there is a central digit with three digits on each side that represents the middle, ring and little fingers in mirrored symmetry. Despite the seven digits, the thumb is absent. Our forearm has two bones; namely radius and ulna. Children with mirror hands will not have radius; instead they have two ulna. Hence mirror hand is also known as ULNAR DIMELIA.
Treatment
Treatment is designed to reduce the number of digits to four and reconstruct the thumb from the deleted digits.
